About The One To World

Fulbright Awards Dinner

Each year, One To World honors outstanding individuals who have furthered Senator J. William Fulbright’s vision of peace through international education and exchange, before an audience of 400+ internationalists in business, higher education, the arts, and government. The late Senator Fulbright was honored at this event in 1993, and Harriet Mayor Fulbright has served as Honorary Chair in his memory.

The One To World Fulbright Awards Dinner is a benefit event that raises critical funds for One To World programs as well as awareness of the Fulbright Program. One To World is proud to be designated by the U.S. Department of State as the official Coordinator of Enrichment Programs for visiting Fulbright grantees studying in the greater New York area.

The highlight of NYC’s international education community, this prestigious event has grown from its first home at the United Nations to the Waldorf Astoria, then to 583 Park Avenue upon the Waldorf’s temporary closing in 2017.  The 2021 Gala will be held virtually to ensure the safety of our participants, and we look forward to this opportunity to reach a truly global audience.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of this event which has been so crucial to One  To World’s growth and success.  We are deeply indebted to those with the foresight to found this wonderful and important gathering back in 1991, when One To World was known as Metro International: Stacey Simon, then Executive Director and creator of One To World’s flagship Global Classroom program; Kenneth Forde, then Chairman of the Board and a 2018 One To World Fulbright Awards Dinner Honoree; and the incomparable Sharon Wyse, Gala Consultant and leader of this great charge for over 25 years. Without their tenacity, creativity, and guidance, One To World might not have been able to survive and thrive through the past 43 years.

This momentous anniversary also coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Fulbright program itself.
